Hardheaded people are often described as impossible, stubborn, blockhead and so many others. We all hate them until we stand firm in our values and are called the same names too.
Shouldn’t we be hardheaded on some issues? Psalm 2 has something to say.
PART 1:
VERSES(1-3): Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.”
Have you ever suffered for doing the right thing? being on the God’s side? Sometimes it seems like whenever you choose to stand firm on your values, not to compromise; circumstances, people and everything else conspires against you. When you don’t lower your standards to those of the crowd, you are accused of arrogance. “who does he/she think he/she is?” they say. You will often be accused of being a fool for being honest. Or inconsiderate and unfair for confronting those who do wrong.
It’s easy to stand with the crowd when they are wrong and it takes courage to stand alone even though you are right. Nations/Kings (people and circumstances) who go against you for standing firm on your right values, for being on God’s side are not only going against you but they are going against God.
They might have made you doubt yourself, they might have made you questions whether it was worthy it not to compromise. But you know what? Here is what happens:
PART2:
Verses 4-6: “The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, “I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.”
God laughs at them. He scoffs at them. Your conscience is clear, theirs is not. God laughs at them because He knows the world has been created in a way that we reap what we sow. What we think, say and do are like seeds, we will harvest them later. If you are honest people will accuse you of being a fool, but when it comes to the time of trusting, they will come to you. If you are solid on your values, you will lose a couple of friends, but those who reject you and those who appreciate you will RESPECT you. They will trust your advice. So, yes, it hurts a little for now, but will be great in future. God laughs at them for being shortsighted, because what you just did has set installed you as a king, it has set you high above them in a long run. You know what else that happens?
PART 3”
Verse 7-9 “I will proclaim the Lord’s decree: He said to me, “You are my son; today I have become your father. Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. You will break them with a rod of iron you will dash them to pieces like pottery”
God is proud of you. He calls you his own child. He is proud of being your father. Now you can ask for more wisdom, you can ascend and you won’t just fall because you are built on right foundation; you are not intimidated by people’s opinion, you can rule with a rod of iron (with strengths). You are strong enough to dash and smash evil (injustice, poverty etc.) So keep doing what is right, keep standing firm in what you believe is right. Hold your head high, you and I will have stories to take our children, to inspire them.
HERE IS THE ADVICE FOR EVERYBODY
PART4
Verse 10-12 “Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling. KISS HIS SON, or he will be angry and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. BLESSED ARE ALL WHO TAKE REFUGE IN HIM.”
Have you realized how it is much easier to think that we have been on the side of those who stand in our values? yet actually every now and then we might have gone against those who stood firm in their values. We criticized those who were honest or were offended when someone confronted us on what we had done wrong, we felt bad and in defense of ourselves, we tried to reason them out and make them ashamed of themselves.
If you did, from now on words, be wise, be warned, serve the Lord with fear, go on his side, celebrate those who do stand on God’s side. Forget what is behind and Press on what is a head. Start changing, stop compromising on your values or teaching others to compromise.
KISS HIS SON.
We know this for sure, we kiss those who are intimate. There are so many kinds of kiss(es) but it seems like all of them are designed to be given to people who are close/intimate to us. There is a kiss you that is only for your wife, a kiss your child or your parent or close friend. We only kiss people by being close to them. Kissing is not like waving a hand to people, for waving you can wave at someone 50 meters away , you can even shake someone’s hand when he/she is a meter away, but to kiss, you need zero distance.
Kiss God’s Son, the NIV version I am using, uses “Son” not “son” or “sons”. Kiss the Son means “Kiss Jesus”, be intimate with him, get close to him. That starts by believing who He is what he has done (1. He is the son of God: The owner of Glory and power, the Lord and King, the Judge of the dead and the living, the righteous one. 2. He is the lamb of God: the savior who died in your place, merciful, forgiver of all our sins). Then repent: ask him to forgive you and purpose to please him going forward. If you have not welcome him in your life, do it now, tell him just that and He will be part of your life from now onwards.
BLESSED ARE ALL WHO TAKE REFUGE IN HIM.
Whether you are part of those who have stood firm in their values or those who went against them, you will be blessed if you choose to find refuge in him. Those who seek to live godly lives will be persecuted, and if people hate you or falsely accuse you of all kinds of things, just because of Jesus, then find refuge in him, find comfort in him. If you have been part of the second group, have been on the wrong side of life and what you have been sowing will soon result in reaping all kinds of consequences for both the current life and life after, still you can find refuge in him by believing in your heart who He is and what He has done, repent and walk in his Word; you will be forgiven, long-lasting consequences (eternal ones) will for sure be removed.
Now if you are kissing the Son, intimate with Him, walking in His Word, you know for sure that you are trying to do you best in having the right thoughts, deeds and speech: Go ahead and be hardheaded. Don’t compromise or give in just because they call you hardheaded, be proud of your hardheaded(ness), you will reap if you don’t give up, those who used to oppose you will comeback to your side and even if they don’t, God will be on your side and you will be proud of yourself for you will have nothing to regret.
